War in Ukraine: Zelensky warns airlines of risks in Russian airspace

Volodymyr Zelensky has issued a warning to airlines over flight safety in Russian airspace. The Ukrainian president said that “safe days” in Russian skies were over, as Ukraine conducts drone operations against Russia.

According to remarks reported by several media outlets, civil aviation is not being targeted as such. However, he said it had no place in skies where drones are operating. He also warned that Ukrainian drones would remain in Russian skies for as long as the war continues.

Moscow’s response

Vladimir Putin denounced the warnings, describing them as “terrorist”. The Russian president said that “we do not negotiate with terrorists”.

These positions place the two leaders in direct opposition over the consequences of the war for air safety above Russian territory. The Ukrainian warning concerns risks linked to the presence of drones, while Moscow portrays it as an unacceptable threat.
